For 87 years, we have combined timeless craftsmanship with the latest technology to create high quality, well-engineered hardwood furniture frames. We believe a world-class supplier doesn’t have to be half a world away. Chervan is one of the largest independent wood manufacturers in the United States. Our passion is producing exceptional products while providing numerous services to the custom furniture industry. Our mission is to honor our legacy and continue to play a role in the success of our people and our community.
In the early 1930’s a dedicated artist, designer, and craftsman began a legacy of industry-leading quality. Hungarian immigrant Frank Chervan founded his first company, Darwall, in 1932. After migration of the furniture manufacturing industry following World War II, he moved production to a larger factory in Bedford, Virginia. Our new plant bore the founder’s name and became known as Frank Chervan, Inc. We then began using CNC machining, CAD terminals for drafting, and installed some of America’s first industrial-scale woodworking machines adapted specifically to wooden chair production. In 2006, Chervan acquired a new 350,000 square-foot facility in Roanoke, Virginia where we operate today. Proud of our strong history, we continue to bear Frank Chervan as our company name and use many of his original designs in our catalog line.
Frank Chervan founded our company in Ravenna, Ohio, then named Darwall. Darwall quickly became a go-to source for premiere furniture frames in the Ohio and Pennsylvania area.
As demand and industry began to shift south, so did Chervan. We opened a second plant in Bedford, Virginia named after our founder and became known as Frank Chervan, Inc.
Chervan began investing heavily in advanced CNC technology. We lead the way in CNC shaping, sanding, and 5 axis routering at a time the majority of industry gave up on domestic production for an import production model.
2006 & Today
Chervan purchased a plant in Roanoke, Virginia with enough space to expand capabilities. We are now a one-stop-shop that can take a design from rough cut lumber to a fully finished product.
